The European Union Office in Hong Kong and Macau ("EU Office") is pleased to announce that the EU Office and the Consulates General of the EU Member States will join hands to organise the 'Europe Day Festival 2025' at PMQ, Central, on Saturday, 10 May 2025. The event will celebrate Europe Day with the people of Hong Kong.
We warmly invite you to join this family-friendly street market, featuring exciting performances, including DJ Adrian from Belgium's remix and popular excerpts from the classic opera Carmen presented by the Hong Kong Opera; fine wines and cuisine from across Europe; and activities for both adults and children, such as dance workshops and opportunities to learn European languages. Come and explore the rich culture, vibrant diversity, and attractive opportunities offered by the EU and its Member States!
This Saturday's event is open to the general public and serves as the grand finale of a two-day celebration of Europe Day (Europe Day). Europe Day falls annually on 9 May and commemorates peace and unity in Europe. This year holds special significance: 75 years ago, the visionary French politician Robert Schuman proposed a new form of political cooperation and economic interdependence on the European continent, resulting in the historic 'Schuman Declaration'. This framework marked the beginning of the European integration process, and Schuman earned the title of Father of the Post-War European Integration.
The 'Europe Day Festival 2025' aims to further strengthen the close ties between the EU and Hong Kong by connecting the public and promoting mutual understanding and respect.
Ambassador Leopoldo Aldo, Head of the European Union Office in Hong Kong and Macau, said, 'We hope to bring the EU closer to the extraordinary city of Hong Kong through the Europe Day Festival 2025. As in previous years, we will also host official diplomatic events on 9 May to commemorate Europe Day. But this year, for the first time, we are organising a free event open to the Hong Kong public on the weekend, and we look forward to sharing the EU's spirit of 'Unity in Diversity' with our Hong Kong friends. We will showcase what makes the EU unique and attractive - our rich multiculturalism, fine food and wine, commitment to sustainability, and our innovative spirit - all of which are precious aspects of Europe and values that connect us with the wonderful people of Hong Kong. There is so much for the EU and its Member States to share with Hong Kong, and we are very excited! '
Ambassador Aldo continued, 'We look forward to engaging with people from all walks of life in Hong Kong, and we hope that this event will enhance understanding of the EU and the values it represents, opening new avenues of cooperation and fostering even closer ties between the people of the EU and Hong Kong.'
Programme Highlights:
Street market, food booths, tasting workshops, interactive game booths, musical and dance performances, organised by the Consulates General of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Finland, and Sweden, and related organisations
